Motorcycle VIN Check

When buying a used motorcycle just like a used car, it is essential that you check that it is in good shape. A motorcycle may appear to be in mint condition but may have undergone certain repairs that reduce its performance considerable. In addition, people selling used vehicles are not always straightforward since their aim may be to get rid of a motorcycle because it is problematic. This is why it is always important to carry out a motorcycle VIN check or a motorbike vin check.

A motorcycle vehicle identity number check allows you to get a history of the motorbike use and will be important in determining a couple of details about the motorbike. These details are usually in the form of a motorcycle history report which you get when you enter the motorcycle vehicle identity number into a motorcycle database. The information contained in such a motorbike history report will include;

The number of owners the motorcycle has had.

The title information of the motor bike which is vital for you to ascertain that it is a clear title and that the motorcycle has not been stolen. It will also detail if you can get the title in your name or if there are any problems that have to be resolved.

Any accidents the motorcycle was involved in and if there was damage sustained. The motorcycle history report will also go into details and describe the type of damage that was sustained so that you can check to see that repair was done well and that nothing is amiss.

You will also be able to ascertain the odometer reading from the report and be able to determine if it is correct and also be able to identify if the motorcycle has a salvaged title. In addition, you may also be able to get the original specifications of the manufacturer, information which may come in handy if you need to do some maintenance or repairs on the bike.

To be able to carry out a motorcycle VIN lookup, you will need to first get the vehicle identification number (VIN) of the motorcycle. It is usually a series of numbers and letters ranging from 11 to 17 characters long that is printed on a metal plate on the motorcycle’s engine. Given that the characters are small, you will need to carefully check and write so that you get the correct number which is essential for you to get an accurate motorbike history report. In the VIN, the first 3 numbers usually represent the manufacturer of the bike while the next six digits contain information about the model of the motorcycle. The remaining characters are usually unique for that particular motorcycle. Once you have the motorcycle vehicle identification number, you can go to the internet and do a VIN check on one of the many sites offering the service. It will then take a few minutes before you get your report.

When you get your motorcycle history report, you will be able to ascertain whether the motorcycle you are thinking of purchasing is fit for your use and is worth the price that is being quoted. You can then reject the bike or if you want to acquire it on different terms, you can renegotiate with the owner.
