Oakley SI Gloves as Motorcycle Gloves?

Is the carbon fiber on Oakley SI gloves strong enough to cushion my knuckles in case of a fall? I am not familiar with carbon fiber, is it really that strong? I tried the gloves on in the store today and really liked and the guy that worked there told me that it would be strong enough. Is carbon fiber as strong as or similar to Kevlar?

To answer your question, yes, they carbon fiber will protect your knuckles. It’s the same type of knuckle found in gloves from Alpinestar, Sidi, Teknic, etc. ONe of the other poster’s has it right about more palm protection. However, I’ve been in several crashes (I used to road race as a hobby) where I’ve done of lot “tumbling” and have bashed up my knuckles pretty good. As a matter of fact, one of those crashes prompted me to change to a pair of gloves that had the hard carbon knuckles.

If you look at these gloves, they’re originally designed for off-road use (mountain bike), however, the stitching and material is on par or better with some of the other motorcycle specific brans. For instance, the stitching is much better than Olympia gloves. Olympia’s pretty much “explode” on impact. The SI glove is slightly better than Joe ROcket stuff, but it’s similar to the ICON branded stuff.

For most day to day riding (moderate highway speeds) you should be OK.
