what “time frame” does the series of unfortunate events take place?

their clothing (in the book pictures) looks like it came from a while back. they sent a telegram to someone. yet the story mentions a motorcycle.

But you can assume it’s set somewhere in the 1930s, since the world in which they live in is fiction.
